Laboratories

Pharmacology Lab

The Pharmacology laboratory is well equipped with sophisticated equipments like students organ bath assembly with Sherrington's rotating drum to carry out in-vitro experiments on isolated tissues and Rotarod apparatus, Analgesiometer, Actophotometer, Lucas moist chamber, Pole climbing apparatus, Convulsiometer, Plethysmograph, student stimulator for in-vivo experiments on intact animals. The laboratory is specifically designed to carry out experiments on animal models like analgesic, anti-histaminic, antipyretic, anti-hepatotoxic, anti-ulcer, anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, antidepressant, anxiolytic, nootropic activities of known and new drugs of synthetic and herbal origin.
The college has an attached separate animal house approved by CPCSEA providing housing facilities which is well ventilated, air conditioned and hygienic. Computer based simulations and softwares are also made available for routine teaching to undergraduate studies as well as for research testing.

Pharmaceutical Chemistry Lab

Pharmaceutical Chemistry (Medicinal Chemistry) is a multi-disciplinary field of study that utilizes synthetic organic chemistry in conjunction with developments in biochemistry, computational chemistry, molecular biology, and pharmacology to advance drug discovery.
Medicinal chemistry is the application of chemical research techniques to the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. During the early stages of medicinal chemistry development, scientists were primarily concerned with the isolation of medicinal agents found in plants. Today, scientists in this field are also equally concerned with the creation of new synthetic drug compounds. Medicinal chemistry is almost always geared toward drug discovery and development.
Pharmaceutical Chemistry (Medicinal chemistry) laboratory was established with an objective to promote teaching and research in pharmaceutical sciences.

Pharmacognosy Lab

Pharmacognosy is defined as a branch of bioscience which deals in detail medicinal and related products of crude or primary type obtained from plant, animal and mineral origins. In short, it is an objective study of crude drugs from natural sources treated scientifically and encompasses the knowledge of the history, distribution, cultivation, collection, processing for market and preservation, the study of sensory, physical, chemical and structural characters and the uses of crude drugs.

Department of Pharmacognosy (DOP) has provided the laboratory facility of students in UG & PG courses.

Pharmaceutics Lab

Pharmaceutics is the study of the quantitative aspects of drug delivery. It involves the design, development and evaluation of drugs in combination with an appropriate dosage form. In Pharmaceutics one can:

  • characterizes physical properties of drugs

  • develops innovative delivery systems for drugs

  • Quantitatively evaluates drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and pharmacological activity in the living organism.

Department of Pharmaceutics at S.D. College of Pharmacy & Vocational Studies
